Aqurian Sadhana Grand Rapids

The aquarian sadhana is an early morning spiritual practice meant to help people through the transition into the aquarian age. It is a practice aimed to build intuition, physical and mental stamina, self-awareness, and spiritual depth. The aquarian sadhana is practiced by kundalini yoga communities across the world. Partaking in this tradition as a group develops group consciousness and amplifies the impact of the meditation.

Experience deep connection with yourself and the community through this time of spiritual practice including kundalini yoga, chanting the aquarian mantras to live music, and deep relaxation. Bring a yoga mat, meditation cushion, natural cloth to cover your head according to tradition, blanket for warmth, and water. This is a free community event. No registration necessary.

Truth Be Told: A Mindful Writing Project

Truth Be Told is a mindful writing project designed to help you examine your truth. Not your parents’, not your friends’, not your partner’s, coworkers’ or the media’s. We’re pummeled with the SHOULDs of societal constructs from the moment we are born. We’ve internalized these ways of being unconsciously, unaware of our own stories. And these stories usually begin to create a friction within as we grow. Often, this friction is hard to identify. It might show up as stress, anxiety, depression, anger, and physical symptoms, like pain, digestive issues, disease and more.

Through mindful self-exploration, you’ll unearth the stories that shape you. In this process, you’ll find more alignment and less friction as you choose to keep what feels right and release the stories that no longer serve a purpose.

What to Expect

  • Group mindfulness practice at project onset
  • 4 writing prompts + mindfulness considerations per week for 4 weeks
  • Partner support
  • Online discussion group
  • Your writing is absolutely personal. There is no requirement to share, unless you feel drawn to.
  • All you need is pen, paper, access to email and a quiet space

Other Details

  • Group practice and project kickoff will take place April 4 at 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. EST via video chat.
  • The rest of the project takes place wherever you are. Writing prompts will be emailed.

This project is designed by naturopathic practitioner Kara McNabb. In her practice, she helps clients connect their physical dis-ease to their unconscious belief systems through mind-body counseling, energetic body work and plant medicine.

New Time: Energy Meditation Practice Group

Meditation is transformative. Practicing in community is powerful.

In this class, you’ll gain increased self-awareness, more questions, better energetic boundaries, more clarity, increased intuition, connection, community, calm, discover your blocks and learn meditation practices to incorporate into your daily practice.

Why might you want to participate? If you’re searching for something more, if you want more clarity, if you feel blocks, if you’re working on building better boundaries, if you’re searching for community, if you’re looking for a new meditation practice, then this group might be for you.

Through meditation and other group and partner exercises, you’ll gain a clearer understanding for how your own energy moves, how it reacts in stress and how to be in control of your energy. Each month will introduce a new practice and contribute to your deeper sense of Self awareness. Some of it will be easy; some of it will be difficult. All of it will transform.

This group will meet monthly. Ideally, you will be present for each class to maintain the group dynamic and rapport. Dates: April 25, May 30, June 27, July 25, August 22, Sept 26, Oct 24, Nov 28, Dec 19, Jan 23, Feb 20, March 27.

Reclaim Your Yoga 5-week Series

Does your yoga practice need a reboot after a little summer hiatus? Are you ready to reprioritize your practice this fall? Or maybe yoga is feeling a little stale these days — like it’s not really serving you — and you need a little something to help you bring it back to life? Maybe you want to learn how you can make specific poses (or your practice in general) work for your body instead of the other way around? Or are you just looking for a way to bring some play and creativity to your yoga both in and out of the studio?

Reclaim Your Yoga is for you. A 5-week series designed to help you reflect, reset, and recommit — clarifying your intentions for your practice and encouraging you to approach it with a fresh perspective and a sustainable spark. You’ll explore what works for you and what doesn’t, letting go of old patterns that aren’t supporting you or your growth and building new ones that will.

During each 75 minute session, you’ll focus on a different theme (e.g. learning what YOU need from your yoga, mindfulness as the context for your practice) and your personal reflections will guide you in creating a yoga practice that truly serves you and aligns with your life rhythms. Sessions will include a short centering exercise and journal prompt followed by a 60 minute vinyasa flow (with the option for hands-on alignment cues and assists from Kate if individual students desire.)

Contact Kate for more info or to pay for pre-registration with cash or check.
TAKE NOTE: Class size is limited to 15 participants. All registration fees and payments are non-refundable.

Led by Kate Block of Little Dipper. Kate completed her 200 hour yoga teacher training with Amber Kilpatrick at Mindful Vinyasa School of Yoga, training specifically in vinyasa (flow-based) yoga and mindfulness techniques. She would be honored to guide you on your yoga journey.

Yoga for Self-Acceptance

Many people live at war with themselves. Actions, interactions, and quiet moments are colored with shame and self-judgement, making it difficult to authentically connect with the light and tenderness within. There is longing to experience friendship with self, but often a lack of knowing where to start.

In this 6-week series, experience the practice of selfacceptance. Receive tools for reconnecting with yourself in a kinder, more compassionate way. Identify your points of disconnection. Explore how to befriend your shadowed parts. Discover how to engage and accept your body and Being, just as you are.

Yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and exercises for inner-exploration will be used as tools for meeting yourself as you are and practicing selfacceptance. With these tools, develop skills helpful for continuing your practice of selfacceptance outside of this series and into life.

Led by Wellness Collective member Erica McLaughlin of GR Healing Yoga. Erica is a registered yoga teacher teacher specializing in embodiment. She strongly believes in the healing power that comes when we provide ourselves a quiet space to connect the body and mind. In this space our true essence has a chance to emerge, offering the greatest gift of healing: selfacceptance.

Magic and the Moon

So you’re curious about the moon are you? Are your insides tingling, itching to unleash the power inside of you? Are your bones quaking, knowing that there is more to you than just your body and mind?

The moon has long been a source of captivation, mystery, and magic. This workshop will explore our connection to the moon as humans, the meaning and energy of the cycles, how to work them into your life, the power of odd lunar events (like eclipses, supermoons, and blue moons) and more with room for Q&A.

Oh, and what better time to participate in a full moon ritual than the night before the full moon in Aries? Yes. That’s right. Many have asked Rachel Leah Gerson what she does on a night like this. It’s time for you to experience it. Let your inner alchemist out as you come together with others to experience your power as an individual, the power of community, and the power of the Aries full moon.

Ritual ethics will be included beforehand.

This is a donation-powered event. If you feel compelled to support the movement of psychic awareness, Doorway to Self’s general message in empowering others through understanding psychic abilities and themselves, or Rachel Leah Gerson in all of the work it takes to put these events on, donations can be made in person at the event in cash or via check to Doorway to Self LLC, online to patreon.com/doorwaytoself or through PayPal-ing doorwaytoself@gmail.com.

D2S is extremely gracious for any contributions made.

Attendance to this event will be capped at 25 people. If you would like to make sure that you have a seat reserved for you, email doorwaytoself@gmail.com. Otherwise, it’s first come, first serve!

Self-care for the Fall Transition with Kundalini Yoga

Fall is a season of transition. We see it and we can feel it everywhere around us – days become shorter and crisper, trees and shrubs turn colorful and start shedding their leaves, and animals are busy making food reserves for the winter.

Fall also affects us humans. If you listen in you might feel a certain emptiness or nostalgia as you observe the ending of a beautiful seasonal cycle – the end of summer.

To protect your health during the fall transition, Ayurvedic health educators say it’s important to slow down, support your liver’s natural ability to remove toxins from the body and increase the inner heat through seasonal food or yogic movements and breathing techniques that will help boost your immune system before the winter.

That is exactly why this 6-week kundalini yoga self-care for the fall transition program was created.

Week of October 29th: start the slowing down process with a beautiful self-care yoga practice involving tapping and self massages triggering deep healing and relaxation
Week of November 5th: practice a gentle cleansing that will open up the pores of your skin followed by a set that will enhance your blood circulation
Week of November 12th: work on a full body detox that will help you get rid of toxic residues accumulated during the summer time
Week of November 19th: NO CLASS (Thanksgiving Week)
Week of November 26th: practice a kundalini yoga set to support the liver
Weekof Dec 3rd: start boosting the immune system so that you can resist diseases
Week of Dec 10th: conclude the series with grounding and first chakra work to get you ready and steady for the holiday season

Four classes will be offered each week with the same program. Pick one class day/time to join for the 6 week series (though class can be changed with notice.)

Join all 6 classes for a package of $75. Drop-in for $15/class. Regular students may use their 6 classes punch card. All levels are welcome. Chair modifications are available. Bring your yoga mat, a blanket and water.

Yoga for Anxiety, Stress, and Depression

Research indicates that yoga can reduce the impact of our stress response and may be helpful for both anxiety and depression. Evidence suggests that yoga can reduce the heart rate, lower blood pressure, and ease respiration. The body itself contains and manifests much of the experience of suffering – shame, self-hatred, and pain. In that respect, Grand Rapids Healing Yoga begins healing within the context of the body.

The somatic techniques used in this series build a stronger connection to the body and Self. The approach is an effective, safe, and empowering way to establish more mind-body integration. Topics include compassion, self-care, breath work, yoga postures/philosophy, interoception, and mindfulness.

Space is limited to 12 participants.
Course is effective for beginner and experienced students and includes a handbook and take home self-care practices.

From Wounds to Wisdom

This 90 minute spiritual healing experience is at the service of any woman who has experienced spiritual distress, crisis or spiritual abuse. Spiritual wounds run deep within the core of who we are. We often carry the scars but don’t always have the language to name them. Once we can name them, we can begin to heal them. Our healing turns our wounds into some of our deepest wisdom.

During this session, participants will begin the process of healing though experiences of gentle slow meditative movement, deep attentive listening to the wise woman within, and allowing the grace of being in the presence of others in their woundedness to create a healing balm for each other’s hearts and souls.

Participants are asked to dress comfortably, bring a journal if you have one (if not, one will be provided) and a water bottle.

Space is limited to 15 participants. Contact Cami with any questions and to register.

As a practitioner of spiritual direction, Cami journeys with soul seekers as they explore their spiritual longings, hopes and dreams as they tap into their own wisdom as it is divinely sourced through the source of all wisdom. Cami specializes in the area of spiritual woundedness working with those who are in spiritual distress, spiritual crisis, or spiritual abuse.

The Marriage Trap

About fifty percent of marriages end in divorce and of the remaining fifty percent who stay married, surveys indicate many do so because of kids, religious beliefs, economic reasons, or because the alternative seems worse. What’s going wrong?

In this workshop explore the core unconscious traps in marriages and committed relationships that create ongoing disharmony, why they are seldom, if ever, uncovered in traditional marriage therapy and the generative process of moving through and beyond the traps. Participants will leave not only hopeful about relationship as a means to happiness and self expression, but empowered to take steps toward that end. All who are interested in attending are welcome regardless of being in a legal or ordained marriage.

Led by Mark Walstrom. Mark is a psychotherapist by training, but his work has evolved over the past twenty-five years beyond traditional therapy to a deeper psychospiritual process – an Integral process. It’s about movement – conscious and intentional movement – out of limited and unconscious habits, conditioning, and patterns and into a way of being that is more fluid, authentic, and alive.

Awaken: A day of body, mind, spirit exploration

Move into 2019 with greater openness to an awakened life. Grant yourself space and time for reflection, self-discovery and an opportunity to encounter new ideas for yourself, your relationships, and your life.

This one-day event features classes led by Wellness Collective members to help you awaken your body and spirit to the new year and the new possibilities that await you.

Come for one class or stay for the entire day to:
*boost your immune system
*balance your energy
*build healthier relationships
*bring forth body awareness

Boost your Immune System with Kundalini Yoga
9:00-10:30
Try out kundalini yoga and learn how to use this practice to fight off disease at it’s very beginning by triggering your own healing capacity. Warm up with the immune system booster pranayama (breathing exercise) followed by the disease resistance kriya. You will also experience a deep gong relaxation. Beginners and more advanced students are all welcome. Chair modifications available if requested. Dress in comfortable clothes, bring water or tea, your yoga mat, meditation cushion and blanket if you have one.

The Psychology of Chakras
10:30-12:00
Are you not living the life that you know your soul longs to live? Do you desire to find peace and harmony in your life? Do you feel sluggish and out of energy most of the time? If you answered yes to any of these, then learning about your unique energy system (known as the chakra system) and what to do to bring it back into balance can change your life.

In this 90 minute class you will learn about the different developmental stages of each chakra, which childhood issues can cause imbalance in your chakra system and the long term effects those issues can have on your energy system. You will also learn how to identify when your chakras are out of balance. This class will conclude with guided meditation and chanting to restore and bring balance back to your energy system.
Lunch/Open Q&A*
12:00-1:30
Cosmic Awareness for Couples: Learn how the placement of key planets in your astrological birth chart influence what you bring to your relationships
1:30-3:00
Explore the ancient underpinnings of astrology with a focus on which planets & signs exert the strongest influence on relationships! Learn how to create a birth chart for yourself and we will lead you in a discussion of how these influences show up in your love life. From the perspective of evolutionary astrology (meaning we are not predicting or forecasting), we will be seeking the highest expression of the planets and signs most relevant to understanding how you both approach relationships.

Mindful Movement: A Playful Exploration in Self-Expression
3:00-4:30
Before we learned to communicate with spoken language, we explored and responded to the world with movement. Even when we’re sitting perfectly still, our bodies are abuzz with movement, for the pumping of our heart and the breathing of our lungs, to the complex metabolization of food into energy and waste. The neurons in our brains process signals at a constant and high-speed rate, and our muscles contract and relax to serve our desires, activities, and both our voluntary and involuntary tasks. Movement is one of our most primary ways of knowing.

But might we gain fresh insights into our being by exploring movement for the purpose of listening to the body’s messages? While our bodies move in physiological patterns, they also move in psychological patterns. When we begin to pay attention to the subtle somatic movements, we can gain a deeper understanding of our mind-workings.

This workshop offers a playful exploration in conscious movement, raising to our awareness many of the micro-movements that we often give little attention to. Participants will be led through various mindful processes to notice the message our bodies hold and explore what they might mean for us.

*From 12:00-1:30 join us for light snacks and an open question & answer time with Wellness Collective members. Mingle with our members to learn more about what treatments and tools are offered here at Wellness Collective GR.  (FREE to all; no registration necessary for this lunchtime open house)
