Kundalini Yoga GR
Kundalini yoga is considered one of the most comprehensive forms of yoga today and was brought from India to the West by Yogi Bhajan in the 70s. Susanne Werblow of Kundalini Yoga GR holds classes at The Wellness Collective in Grand Rapids four days a week.
It blends familiar yogic postures, dynamic movements, pranayama breath techniques, deep relaxation, meditation, mantras and mudras into a practice that will teach you relaxation, self-healing and elevation.
It is one of the most powerful and complete yoga practices you will encounter. In addition to the usual stretching and core work, Kundalini yoga will help you create an aligned relationship between your body, mind, and soul.
It is often referred to as the yoga of “awareness,” because it focuses on the expansion of your sensory awareness and intuition in order to raise individual consciousness and merge it with the Infinite consciousness.
It also teaches you to become more mindful of your body and how to stay healthy: gain a strong immune system, vital glands, strong nervous system, good circulation, and an overall awareness of the impact of your habits, both good and bad, on your life.
Kundalini yoga opens pathways that can encourage profound personal growth and transformation through self-healing to overcome deep emotional, mental, and physical blocks.
Kundalini Yoga draws on time-honored knowledge and wisdom, and is so rich that you can work on any aspect of yourself. Here are a just few examples of Kundalini kriya sets. There are thousands more to discover and explore!
- Basic Spinal Energy: works systematically on the flexibility of the spine
- Nabhi Kriya: focuses on developing the strength of the navel point
- Kriya for Disease Resistance: reinforces your immune and elimination systems
- Pituitary Gland Series: balances your hormonal system
- Stress Set for the Adrenals and Kidneys: stimulates the adrenals and kidneys
- New lungs and Circulation: rebuilds the lungs and improves blood circulation
- Kriya for Relieving Inner Anger: anger is related to the liver, this set works on both
- Kriya to Throw Off Stress: helps your body to get rid of stress and tension
- Kriya to Relax and Release Fear: releases fears through deep relaxation
- Kriya for a Calm and Open Heart: opens the heart chakra
No previous experience in yoga is required for you to participate in a Kundalini yoga class. Honor yourself, always go at your own pace, listen to your body and ask for modifications if needed. Always let the teacher know if you have a medical condition or are pregnant.
Kundalini yoga is a blissful and rewarding practice! Just give it a try.

Early Morning Practice (75 minutes)
This is for the early risers who love the morning peace. It is a full body and mind tune-up followed by a deep relaxation. There is no better way to start your day: wake the body up, get the energy moving, relax, and be fit the whole day! At night, you will sleep like a baby.
It’s a great class to learn how to establish your own daily morning practice.
Full Body/Mind/Spirit Tune-up (90 minutes)
This is the most comprehensive class: it consists of a warm-up or pranayama, followed by a kriya (sequence of postures to obtain a specific goal), a deep relaxation and closes with a meditation. This class is for all levels.
